In this Blender 2.8 tutorial I create a simple hard surface model and add a mesh with an emission shader to the inside to let it shine out of the main mesh. To mke the emissive materail really shine and glow I use eevee post processing effects like Bloom and Screen Space Reflection. For some hard surface modeling tasks like the boolean difference operations and the beveling I use my free jmesh tools addon that you can get for free from my github: https://ift.tt/2tx06YH Install it like any other addon from zip file and activate it in the Blender preferences - then it will be available in an own panel (JMesh) like shown in the video.
