Star Wars inspired 1 minute tutorial on How to Draw and Animate 2D lightsaber with Blender Grease Pencil! ✨ Tutorial file here: https://dantti.gumroad.com/l/tutorialfiles 🕹️ Grease Pencil Shortcuts List: https://dantti.gumroad.com/l/ibZfj ✏️ Grease Pencil Texture Brushes and Fills: https://dantti.gumroad.com/l/QnUBO Sorry if this is too fast for you, I've been sick lately and couldn't make a long tutorial. Feel free to ask if you need help / have questions :) If you are new to Grease Pencil, check out this tutorial (and more on my channel) where I explain everything thoroughly: https://youtu.be/z11Sv_kkoUs If you forgot to change blade strength, you can add an opacity modifier and check the uniform opacity. Little info about the modifiers: Thickness modifier: easily change the blade size or anything that involves strokes Subdivide modifier/simple: blade on/off animation is a lot smoother when animated. Build modifier: animate blade on/off, use factor value (i to add keyframe, might want to press T at timeline to make it linear animation when you have added the keyframes) Noise modifier: procedurally animate blade static Rim/glow/blur fx: add more depth to the blade / saber, test what works for you, changing color less dark can help show the effect better, remember to be in rendered view to see the effects. With normal materials you can change everything afterwards. Don't want a red lightsaber? Change it to another color like green or blue. Make a duplicate of the saber objects, at the materials panel click the number to make it single-user, change colors for individual looks. Now you can make your own Obi Wan vs Darth Vader battle fan recreation with grease pencil 😅 One more thing: if you want to render transparent lightsaber animation with the glow you will have a bad time since it doesn't render out of the box. I suggest using solid background colors :) Timestamps 0:00 I see you wish to construct a new lightsaber 0:06 Select 2D animation preset (Grease Pencil workspace) 0:09 Disable auto-keying (No keyframes by mistake) 0:11 Add Fill and Stroke materials 0:15 Draw Lightsaber handle (check for references) 0:22 Add new grease pencil object 0:24 Draw lightsaber blade 0:27 Add Thickness modifier and change lightsaber color 0:31 Add Subdivide modifier simple level 5 0:35 Add Build modifier (animate with factor value) 0:39 Add Noise modifier (blade energy static) 0:44 Add Rim and Glow effects (change to rendered view btw) 0:50 Parent blade to handle 0:53 Change world color to black 0:55 Epic ending Thanks for watching and see you next time!
